Zip Encryption OptionsWilbur has some basic abilities to handle encrypted zip archives. The main driving force for this was for people who were distributing textual information on CDs and wanted a way to prevent easy wholesale copying of the material. However the capabilities may have other uses as well. This is the password that will be used when encrypting or decrypting files in zip archives. Note that as with all zip encryption, there is no way to retrieve the contents of an encrypted zip archive if the password is lost or forgotten. The password will not be displayed as you type it, but you must enter it a second time to confirm there were no typos. Wilbur requires the same password for all encrypted archives. Note that Wilbur does not prompt for this password and if it is blank the contents of encrypted zip archives will not be visible or indexed. If this flag is set, the password will be stored in the Wilbur index itself. A mild form of encryption is used on the index itself so it cannot be easily discerned from an examination of Wilbur's files. If this box is checked and a password exists, then that password will be used to encrypt any file that Wilbur adds to a zip archive. If this box is checked and a password exists, then Wilbur will not allow copying or launching of files within an encrypted zip archive. Information can still copied from within the contents pane to the clipboard however. Once set, you must know the password in order to turn off this flag, even if the password is saved with the index. |
